Techniques that should be implemented for falls sprains, strains and lifting are:
    - If you encounter a fall you should get up (long as your not hurt) and see if it was a spill that cause it, or if you was jus being careless.
The most important thing to do when you encounter one of these then accidents you should seek immediate help from the teacher.

You should treat your falls, sprains, strains and lifting right away. When you hurt yourself dont look passed it. make sure you use a first aid kit when you fall and put ice on any sprains and strains. Dont bend your back to lift up heavy items.

When changing direction while moving an object,
turn with your feet, not by twisting at the waist.
Avoid lifting higher than your shoulder height.
Use a step stool or ladder to move objects at
    these heights.
When sitting, sit with your knees slightly higher
than your hips, with a firm backrest for your
lower back. Move, cross and uncross your legs
    frequently.
Sit in a vehicle as you sit in a chair, with your
knees slightly above your hips, with support for
    your lower back.
When standing while working, stand straight.
Avoid bending at your waist. For prolonged
standing, use a low footstool for alternate resting
of your legs and for altering your stance. Wear
    comfortable, supportive shoes.
When walking, maintain an erect posture, wear
slip-resistant, supportive shoes. The majority of
slips, trips and falls can be prevented by wearing
quality work shoes with slip-resistant heels and
    soles.
When carrying heavy objects, carry them close to
the body and avoid carrying them in one hand.
When heavy or bulky objects need to be moved,
obtain help or use a mechanical aid such as a
    dolly, hand truck, forklift, etc.
When stepping down from a height of more than
eight inches, step down backwards, not forward.

When someone falls you should: Do not try to get the person up of the ground immediately
ask the person to take some deep breaths, relax and place a pillow under the person's head
check for any injuries, can the person move their legs and arms, is the person in pain, is there any obvious deformity, bones sticking out, swelling, bleeding, unusual position of the limbs, has the person hit their head, does the person appear grey in colour, is the person unconscious?

When you are lifting something heavy you should lift with your legs and not with your back. If you sprain or strain your ankle you should sit down in a chair and get a trained professional to look at it to see if it is broken. If someone falls in the kitchen or in a lab someone should go up to them to see if anything is broken or sprained before they get up.

What techniques should be implemented for falls, sprains, strains, and lifting? For lifting, keep the bucket or whatever your holding from above your head. Keep it at chest level. Sprains are minor, so their is nothing to be done but let the person rest whatever they sprained. Strains are minor, also, all you have to do is rest. Falls are serious. They can result in death or a very dangerous injury. Call 911 if necessary. Always keep a first aid with you.

The symptoms of a sprain are almost exactly the same as that of a broken bone. When in doubt, sprains should be treated the same as broken bones. The most common symptoms are:
    •pain
    •swelling
    •bruising
    •inability to move
•inability to bear weight on the joint
It is not necessary to have all of the symptoms of a sprain in order for the joint to be injured.
    Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: May take up to 48 hours
    Here's How:
1.Stay Safe. If you are not the victim, practice universal precautions and wear personal protective equipment if available.

2.Do not call 911 for a sprain. NIAMS suggests visiting a doctor for a sprained joint if:
    •it has severe pain
•victim unable to put any weight on it
•it looks different than uninjured joint (swelling doesn't count)
    •victim can't move it
•victim can't walk more than four steps on it
•there is numbness in any part of it
•redness or red streaks spread out from the injury.
•it has been sprained several times before
•there is pain, swelling, or redness over a bony part of your foot

3.Use the RICE method to treat the sprain.
•Rest the sprained joint by not placing weight on it. Use a cane or crutch on the uninjured side to lean away from the injury.
•Ice the sprain with an ice pack.
•Compress the sprain with an elastic bandage. Ask a healthcare provider to show you how to properly apply an elastic bandage.
•Elevate the sprain above the level of the heart as often as possible during the first 48 hours.

Injuries--such as lifting, pushing and pulling--are
caused by overexertion and are among the more
frequent types of occupational injuries in the United
States. They happen to both men and women, and to
workers of all ages. These kinds of injuries--along
with slips, trips and falls--result in sprains, strains,
hernias and lower back pains. Next to headaches,
these types of injuries are the second most common
medical complaint in our country. Furthermore, next
to colds, they are the second greatest cause of lost
workdays in the general work force

Falls: Soapy water, grease and oils, and things like the traditional banana peel are standard in kitchens and are all slippery. Here are a couple ways to keep slips and falls to a minimum.
If you spill something on the floor, clean it up. Keep a mop or such handy for this purpose.
Often when you are working in the kitchen you are moving fast. Don't leave boxes, stools, bags of groceries or anything else out on the floor where they can trip up a fast moving cook.

Strains: this means pulling the muscle in a wrong way or too suddenly, so the muscle gives way. This could be very painful as it can cause damage to the muscle. A strain in a pace like the stomach or chest could cause rupture of the internal lining, which can cause hernia that might require surgery. So
    - Don't lift heavy object without help. Use the trolley instead.
    - Bend your knees, not your waist. Keep your back straight.
    - Fetch it, don't stretch for it.
    - Don't show off your strength. Work gradually, don't go it once. Lift from floor to the chair and then to the counter.
    - Make the injured as comfortable as possible, apply cold compress (ice in a cloth). If any doubt about injury, treat as a fracture.

Sprains: Wear shoes with good cushioning. Shoes with well-cushioned soles and arches offer the best support and reduce strain on the feet and legs. Regularly shift standing positions. Do not stand in one position for extended periods of time. Continually change position to keep blood flowing into all limbs and reduce strain on particular limbs and joints. Organize your work environment. Keep frequently used items readily at hand to reduce the amount of twisting, leaning and reaching required to access all necessary tools. Lift with your legs. When lifting objects off the floor, bend at the knees and hips, keep your back straight and head up. Your legs are far stronger than your arms, so utilize that strength when lifting heavy objects. When setting heavy objects down, use the same posture. Get help for heavy items. Get help when lifting items that are too heavy or awkward to handle alone.

    Lifting:
1)Stand close to the load and center yourself over it with your feet shoulder width apart
    2)Tighten your abdominal muscles.
3)Keeping your back straight, bend your knees and squat down to the floor.
4)Get a good grasp on the load with both hands.
5)Keeping the load close to your body use your leg muscles to stand up lifting the load off the floor.
6)Your back should remain straight throughout lifting, using only the muscles in the legs to lift the load.
7)Do not twist your body when moving the load. Instead take small steps with your feet turning until your are in the correct position.
8)Again bend at the knees using only your leg muscles and place the load in the appropriate spot.

R is for rest. It is important to rest the injury to reduce pain and prevent further damage. Uce crutches it necessary. Many therapists advocate partial weight bearing as soon as pain will allow. This is thought to accelerate rehabilitation.

I is for ICE or cold therapy. Applying ice and compression can ease the pain, reduce swelling, reduce bleeding (initially) and encourage blood flow (when used later). Apply an ice pack or similar immediately following injury for 15 minutes. Repeat this every 2 hours.

C is for compression - This reduces bleeding and helps reduce swelling. A Lousiana wrap bandaging technique is excellent for providing support and compression to a recently injured ankle.

E is for Elevation - Uses gravity to reduce bleeding and swelling by allowing fluids to flow away from the site of injury. So put your feet up and get someone else to wait on you!
