    Wash Your Hands
By washing your hands frequently with antibacterial soap, you can avoid contracting or spreading illness and bacteria. Wash your hands before and after handling food, after using the bathroom and after touching your mouth or nose.

Bacteria and germs can collect on counter tops and utensils and transfer to food. Keep everything clean, including your hands, while preparing food. If you are handling a lot of food, you can also wear protective sterilized gloves.

    Salmonella
Another safety issue in the kitchen is the spread of bacteria that cause salmonella poisoning. These bacteria are common to uncooked chicken. They can be spread when you place unwashed chicken on counter tops or use utensils on uncooked chicken and then on another dish.

To prevent the spread of salmonella, wash your hands and utensils immediately after contact with raw meats. Also, use antibacterial soaps or wipes to clean the meat preparation area.

    Sharp Objects
Sharp objects are useful in the kitchen but may cause injury if used or handled improperly. Store all sharp objects, including knives, in a secure cupboard or drawer away from children. Do not leave sharp knives soaking in dishwater where they may go unseen and be grabbed unwittingly. Do not use any sharp kitchen utensil while your hands are wet or slippery from cooking oil, eggs or baking spray

When people work in the kitchen for long intervals, most people begin to get hot. They begin to sweat after a while. The intense heat leads to heat exhaustion. The sweat causes them to lose water the body produces. Heat exhaustion could lead to something more severe like heat stroke. Heat stroke could lead to massive brain damage. If someone is nearby, they should hopefully know the general safety audit. Knowing the audit could one day save someone's life.

Some common safety issues in the kitchen would be fires. The most common safety issues are dealing with fires. To deal with safety issues, the ones who set the priorities would be OSHA. When working in the kitchen the heat can sometimes be unbearable. These things resulting from the heat would be heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Arsons could also be common things in the kitchen, to help escape the fires in the kitchen fire detectors and fire emergency plans; using these items can save your life in the fire if plans are well rehearsed. Evacuation plans will help you to escape the fire.

  6. The kitchen area is probably the most hazardous place in the house. The presence of fire, sharp objects, cooking appliances, equipment and liquid substances represents potential danger. But we can turn it into a safe haven by observing some safety measures. It is important to ascertain the different dangers that are present in the kitchen and take some simple precautions to prevent harm from happening.

What are some common kitchen safety issues? Safety issues are an important topic in today's workplace, especially with the rise in accidents in places of work and business. Accidents may often be small, but they can also lead to life-altering results such as mutilation and even death. The most common type of safety issue in workplaces relates to tripping and falling, however, there are many other causes to be considered.

The spread of bacteria caused by uncooked meats. Kitchen fires are also common, to put out a fire a fire extinguisher is used. Fire detectors are very important. The EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency. OSHA for Occupational Safety and Health Adminisration. Both of these agencies prevents many safety issues from happening in a kitchen.

Do not run or when you in the kitchen then don't bump into anything or spill anything. But make sure you don't lay the dish cloth/rag down on the store while the stove is on.

One common issue is contamination. When food becomes contaminated EPA should get involved to get rid of it because its can risk an foodborne illness. That's why we should stay clean and sanitary during the work period of deal with an individuals food. If a building become pest infected that's when PCO needs to be involved. They would spray, set traps, etc to rid of the pest.

The OSHA is the occupational safety and health administration is a gevernmental agancy that enforces safe working conditions. Everybody in the kitchen should know what to do in case of an emergency. Each place should have a plan on what to do and what not do in case of an emergency. In case fire the employees should know how to use the fire extinguisher which helps put a fire out. Also kitchen hood fire suppression system automaically puts out the fire before it spreads. General safety audit which is the review of the level of safety.

You should have fire exstingusher at each corner of kitchen. To stop heat exhaustion try to stop and get a drink of water. Have routes to get out in case of severe fire instead of exstiguishing.

  46. The microwave oven is a versatile, time saving kitchen appliance that uses microwave radiation to heat food. Food cooked in the microwave is as nutritious as food cooked in other ways, and research suggests that microwave cooking retains more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than boiling.

However, the microwave oven can be dangerous if it is not used correctly. Common dangers include unevenly cooked foods and scalds from escaping steam. A microwave oven should not be used to sterilise jars or bottles, including babies’ bottles

    1. Poor Washing Habits
This is the most common mistake that people make in the kitchen. It may seem unimportant, but it really is vital that you wash your hands before you handle any food. You pick up germs from everything you touch during the day, and you’re practically asking to get sick if you transfer them to your food. Wash your hands every time you start working with a new ingredient. This is especially important when you’re cooking with meat.

Always wash unpackaged foods before you use them. Wash all fruits and veggies – even ones that you’re going to peel. Bacteria can be transferred from the skin to the core when you slice through the outer skin.

    2. Temperature Violations
Food is potentially harmful when its internal temperature falls inside range of the “danger zone,” which is between 41°F and 135°F. At these temperatures, bacteria can multiply.

A big mistake that many people make is not cooking meat until it reaches the proper temperature. Always use a thermometer to check if your meat is thoroughly cooked. You can’t tell by looking at it. Chicken and turkey should be cooked to 180°F, fresh beef to 145°F (medium rare) or 160°F (well done), ground beef to 160°F, pork to 160°F, lamb to 160°F and fish to 140°F.

Another common mistake is leaving food out on the counter. Never leave foods out to thaw. Instead, put them in the fridge or in a sink full of cold water. Also, never leave meat out to marinade at room temperature.

Foods should always be refrigerated immediately after you are done with them. Anything left at room temperature for longer than two hours must be thrown out. Anything left outdoors in 80° weather or warmer should be thrown out after only one hour.

    3. Cross Contamination
This term sounds complicated, but all it really means is that it’s important to prevent bacteria from transferring between foods. Raw food should never come in contact with ready-to-eat food. Again, this is particularly important when it comes to meat.

Not washing knives, stirring spoons and cutting boards in between use is the most common cross contamination culprit. You should have one cutting board for raw meat and a completely different board for vegetables (only use plastic cutting boards for meat products, as wooden boards can soak up bacteria). Think about it. Do you really want to cut up cucumber for your salad on the pile of chicken blood you just left? The same goes with spatulas. It doesn’t make sense to serve meat with the same tool you used to scoop it into the pan when it was raw.

Also, be sure to sanitize your rags and sponges on a regular basis. They are a breeding ground for microorganisms. You may think that you’re cleaning your table by giving it a once-over with your kitchen sponge, but you could actually be spreading bacteria all over it.

    Protecting Yourself
Food poisoning is a very real threat to our health, yet surprisingly few people understand it or take it seriously. A common assumption is that sanitization and refrigeration technology are far more advanced than ever before and, thus, we should be less at risk of food poisoning than our ancestors. This isn’t true. A century ago, almost 100 percent of food was cultivated within 100 miles of where it was eaten. This allowed people’s immune systems to become familiar to most of the microorganisms on the food and to develop immunity. Today, foods are shipped in from all over the world and the bacteria on them are unfamiliar.

A recent study by the University of Guelph shows that even television cooking shows aren’t immune to making these common errors. In fact, they average 14 violations per hour. People are picking up bad kitchen habits from these shows.

As you can see, it’s important for everyone who prepares food to take food safety very seriously. The tips listed above can help you feel free to cook and enjoy food without worrying about being sidelined with food poisoning.
