Foodborne Illness .The US food supply is among the safest in the world, but organisms that you can’t see, smell, or taste - bacteria, viruses, and tiny parasites - are everywhere in the environment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each year 48 million illnesses, 128,000 hospitalizations, and 3,000 deaths in this country can be traced to foodborne pathogens. Foodborne illness costs Americans billions of dollars each year, and serves as a constant challenge for consumers, researchers, government and industry.

The Food and Drug Administration estimates that two to three percent of all foodborne illnesses lead to serious secondary long-term illnesses. For example, certain strains of E.coli can cause kidney failure in young children and infants; Salmonella can lead to reactive arthritis and serious infections; Listeria can cause meningitis and stillbirths; and Campylobacter may be the most common precipitating factor for a debilitating disease, Guillain-Barre syndrome.

A pathogen it pathos, "suffering, passion" and gignoma or infectious agent colloquially, a germ is a microbe or microorganism such as a virus, bacterium, prion, or fungus that causes disease in its animal or plant host to due of sickness or if it is really bad it may cause death. But catching a food virus it really bad then causes death of mess up some part of your body to cause illness even like I said death

Some foodborne pathogens would be Bacillus cereus, Campylobacter jejuni, Hepatitis A, Salmonellosis, and Vibrio. Foodborne pathogens can cause foodborne illnesses. Foodborne illnesses can result from infection and intoxication. Pathogen infections grow in the intestines of a person who has eaten contaminated food. Pathogen intoxication result from eating food containing poisonous toxins that are not destroyed by cooking.

A foodborne pathogen is an dangerous organism created by a food. It probably was created due to the fact that that particular food was unsanitary or not properly cared for. Pathogens such as salmonela cause by food not being cooked thoroughly if necessary. Ex.Raw meats. It could possibly cause a foodborne illness, which can cause serious illness if not treated.

Foodborne pathogens are the causes of foodborne illness. Foodborne illness is caused by eating contaminated food. Salmonella food poisoning attacks the intestines and stomach. It weakens the stomach and may cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, and headaches. Shigella can infect the digestive tract. It causes nausea, stomach cramps, and headaches.

Bacteria which is a single celled organisms that reproduce by dividing. Virus is very small organism that invaded another cell and causes it to reproduce the virus. Also parasite which is an organism that lives in feeds on the body of another live creature.

A pathogen (Greek: πάθος pathos, "suffering, passion" and γἰγνομαι (γεν-) gignomai (gen-) "I give birth to") or infectious agent — colloquially, a germ — is a microbe or microorganism such as a virus, bacterium, prion, or fungus that causes disease in its animal or plant host.[1][2] There are several substrates including pathways whereby pathogens can invade a host; the principal pathways have different episodic time frames, but soil contamination has the longest or most persistent potential for harboring a pathogen.

The body contains many natural orders of defense against some of the common pathogens (such as Pneumocystis) in the form of the human immune system and by some "helpful" bacteria present in the human body's normal flora. However, if the immune system or "good" bacteria is damaged in any way (such as by chemotherapy, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or antibiotics being taken to kill other pathogens), pathogenic bacteria that were being held at bay can proliferate and cause harm to the host. Such cases are called opportunistic infection.

Some pathogens (such as the bacterium Yersinia pestis which may have caused the Black Plague, the Variola virus, and the Malaria protozoa) have been responsible for massive numbers of casualties and have had numerous effects on afflicted groups. Of particular note in modern times is HIV, which is known to have infected several million humans globally, along with the Influenza virus. Today, while many medical advances have been made to safeguard against infection by pathogens, through the use of vaccination, antibiotics, and fungicide, pathogens continue to threaten human life. Social advances such as food safety, hygiene, and water treatment have reduced the threat from some pathogens. Not all pathogens are negative. In entomology, pathogens are one of the "Three P's" (predators, pathogens, and parasitoids) that serve as natural or introduced biological controls to suppress arthropod pest populations.

What are the foodborne pathogens? Foodborne pathogens are viruses that only come from food. They can hurt you and possibly kill you. A way to get rid of them is to make sure the food is cooked properly and that you have good ingredients and your station is clean and neat.

Pathogens can be any organism that can cause disease. Viruses and bacteria can be pathogens. Some organisms are recognized as pathogens while others may not be harmful until they grow to such an amount inside a host that they become pathogenic. Yeast is a fungus and lives on and in humans and is not normally considered a pathogen. However, yeasts are opportunistic organisms that can change the way they grow and become pathogenic if the conditions are right. Pathogens are spread mostly by physical contact.
